Prospectus for Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) Program

 

Introduction to Guangzhou College of Commerce

Guangzhou College of Commerce (GCC), formerly known as Zengcheng College of South China Normal University. In 1999, the first batch of students were enrolled.  GCC is the first second-class college in Guangdong and one of the first-batch independent colleges in China. In 2011, GCC obtained the right of degree-conferring. In 2014, GCC became the first general undergraduate university in Guangdong Province transferred from an independent college to cultivate high-quality applied talents required by economic and social development. In May 2016, with the approval of the Department of Human Resources and Social Security of Guangdong Province, GCC became the sixth batch of Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base in Guangdong Province.

 

International College of GCC currently offers 7 undergraduate-level programs, including Finance, Accounting, International Business, Logistics Management, Financial Management, Software Engineering, Business English, and 5 junior college programs, including Big data & Accounting, International Business, International Finance, Business English, Visual Communication Design, with 1,976 students. 100% of the teachers of International College have obtained master's or above degrees, and 90% of them have overseas study experiences. International College has established cooperative relationships with 84 world-renowned universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan and other countries, relying on GCC's favorable conditions for running schools, abundant international education resources, high-quality faculty, and project management team.

 

In the past 20 years of internationalization, GCC has cultivated graduates of 16 international programs, of which more than 40% have upgraded to master's degree in recent three years. Some graduates have entered University College London, the University of Hong Kong, University of Toronto, the University of Manchester, New York University, the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney and other famous universities for further study. The average master enrollment rate of Logistics Management (Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Program) in the past 5 years is 48.1%. 82% of the 2021 graduates have been admitted to the top 100 universities of QS World University Rankings, including University College London, which is ranked 8th in QS World. With development of more than ten years, GCC was selected as “Sino-Foreign Partner College with National Brand Competitiveness” in 2017 and “Vice-Chair Member Organization of Branch for Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools, Guangdong Association of Higher Education” in 2021.


Program Introduction

The Service Center For Overseas Study of International College of GCC has collaborated with the Canadian Great Oaks Education Group to introduce the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) international course in Ontario, Canada. Students study at GCC for 1-2 years and complete the required credits for the OSSD program. Then they can obtain an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), and apply to globally renowned universities as a local Canadian student.

 

The OSSD international curriculum has become one of the most advanced secondary school curriculum systems in the world, under rigorous inspection by the Ontario Ministry of Education in Canada, and is also the most authoritative education system that is not exam-oriented. OSSD has high recognition worldwide for its high-quality and strict teaching management and assessment standards, and is recognized by all universities in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, which is a universal diploma for entering global universities.

 

 


Program Advantages

1. Curriculum guarantee

1.1 The cooperative school is Great Oaks Secondary School in Canada, which is a registered school with the Ontario Ministry of Education.

1.2 During enrollment, students register as Ontario students and obtain Ontario Education Number, which can be found on the official website of the Ontario Ministry of Education.

1.3 Students' academic performance for each course can be queried in real-time on the official website of the Ontario Ministry of Education.

1.4 Since the cooperation campus with Great Oaks entered China in 2017, as of June 1, 2022, a total of 421 students have successfully graduated, and have received over 1,300 offers from higher education institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, and other countries, with each student receiving more than three offers.

1.5 The Prime Minister of Canada and the Members of Parliament in charge of educational affairs have expressed strong support for the promotion of OSSD courses in China.

1. The education system of this program is not exam-oriented.

2.1 Diversified assessment methods

The general performance accounts for 70%, which includes experiment report, case analysis, presentation, short essay, unit quizzes. And the summative assessment accounts for 30%, including the final exam and the summary project. Students have approximately 15 assessment opportunities for each course to improve grades.

2.2 With the final grade composed of general performance (70%) and summative assessment (30%), students can directly apply to universities around the world.

2.2.1 Students can directly apply to universities in the world, after obtaining the final grade consisting of assessments in stages and the final exam.

2.2.2 It is not a selective test.

2.2.3 It pays attention to cultivating students' language ability, academic ability, and high-dimensional thinking ability.

3. Application advantages

1.1 Identity advantage: With Ontario Education Number, students can use the 101 application as local students when applying to universities in Canada, which is equivalent to applying to Tsinghua and Peking University with Beijing hukou (household registration) in the domestic college entrance exam, greatly improving the admission rate.

1.2 Grade advantage: With the final grade composed of general performance (70%) and summative assessment (30%), students can directly apply to universities around the world.

5. Faculty advantages

All Canadian local teachers are certified senior teachers by the Ontario Ministry of Education in Canada, with rich experience in teaching, research, and course development. They are responsible for the design, development, and teaching of offshore courses, as well as the grading of student group assignments, group research projects, classroom assignments, tests, and exams. The course will be taught in English, to lay a solid language foundation for students' overseas study in advance.

Graduates of the Program

As of the date of publication of this article, multiple students of OSSD program have successfully received admission notice from world-renowned schools, including Wang, Zuo, Zhang, and other students, adding to the success of the OSSD program of GCC. 

 

Among them, student A has attended an AP course at an international high school in Shenzhen, but the prospects for further education are not optimistic. In September 2022, he/she enrolled in the 1-year OSSD program of GCC. With a TOEFL score of 101, he/she has met the university admission requirements and has received admission notice from Bristol, Glasgow, Birmingham in the UK and Adelaide, Australia.

 

Student B has attended an A-level course at an international high school in Foshan, but the prospects for further education are also not optimistic. After enrolling in the 1-year OSSD program of GCC in September 2022, his/her English have been greatly improved. And he/she has successfully obtained admission notice from Queensland and Adelaide in Australia, Southampton, Birmingham, Sheffield and Liverpool in the UK.

 

Student C once studied at a high school in the United States and returned to China due to the epidemic. After enrolling in the 1-year OSSD program of GCC in September 2021, he/she received admission notice from Bristol, Southampton and Sheffield in the UK and Toronto, Canada from March to April 2022, and enrolled in University of Bristol in mid September 2022.

 

Student D once attended an A-level course at an international high school in Guangzhou, but his grades were not ideal. After enrolling in the 1-year OSSD program of GCC in September 2021, the language score has been greatly improved, and at the end of the same year, the admission notice from University of Sydney, the University of New South Wales and the University of Queensland were successfully received.

Target Students

1. Chinese students in grades 9-12 hope to apply to world-renowned schools through international courses;

2. Students who do not achieve ideal results in the college entrance examination and are unable to enter universities of Project 985 and 211;

3. Students who are not satisfied with the school that offers foundation courses, hope to enter world-renowned schools;

4. Students who do not adapt to the exam-oriented international curriculum system;

5. Students who wish to directly enroll in overseas universities in their freshman year , without IELTS and TOEFL.

Application Procedures

1. Applicants and parents can register on-site at the Service Center For Overseas Study of International College, or contact us to fill out the application form and wait for notification to participate in the entrance exam. We will select the outstanding applicants and issue the admission notice according to the admission plan.

2. Admission requirements: Applicants must participate in the entrance examination (written examination+interview) organized by the school. The entrance examination adopts multi-dimensional assessment methods, combining interview and written examination, to better understand students' learning ability, personality, specialty, hobbies, target majors, etc., so that teachers can provide students with more professional guidance and planning for studying abroad, as well as college selection.
