On the afternoon of February 28th, the launching ceremony of the 20th anniversary of international education was held in the Academic Lecture Hall of the Library. Lv Quanrong, Secretary of the School Party Committee, Zhang Yan, He Bailve and Guo Hang, vice presidents of GCC, Li Hanjun, Assistant President, heads of secondary colleges and functional departments of the college as well as the representatives of teachers and students attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Guo Hang.

       Lv Quanrong pointed out that in the context of the college's comprehensive promotion of building a high-level application-oriented characteristic education system and the construction of master's degree authorization unit, this launching ceremony marks the overall acceleration of GCC's internationalization, and it is also a strategic focus related to the long-term development of the college. He stressed that firstly, it is necessary to further clarify the concept of international education. The CPC Central Committee has successively put forward major initiatives to deepen the opening-up of education to the outside world in the new era and to build the Belt and Road Initiative in the education sector. The internationalization of education has become one of the important measurements on the quality of running a university. The board of directors and school leaders attach great importance to international education, and the international exchanges and cooperation in GCC are at the forefront among similar universities and colleges in Guangdong Province, which has effectively promoted our strengths and advantages. Secondly, we need to further improve the level of international education. The college should take this activity as an opportunity to further enhance the overall school-running level, core competitiveness and social popularity, make internationalization an important part of the connotation construction of the school, and expand the brand influence of “GCC International Education”. Lv demanded that we should clarify our work of international education and promote it to a new level to serve the country’s Belt and Road Initiative, and to meet the practical needs of serving the construction of Guangdong's “Double Zones”, two cooperation zones and Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, and to fulfill the goal of building a high-level application-oriented university. We shall highlight the key points, further build a set of coordinated management mode suitable for running international schools and speed up the process of introducing international talents. We shall ensure the effectiveness of the work, carefully organize, strengthen publicity, and make detailed preparations to ensure the effectiveness of the activities. Lv Quanrong said that with a global vision, we should further emancipate our minds, reform and innovate, plan the development of the college for global demand, constantly improve the competitiveness and influence of our school, create a new situation of international school running, and strive to make greater contributions to accelerating the establishment of a high-level applicative education system with characteristics and promoting the construction of master’s degree authorization unit, and greet the 20th victory of our Party with outstanding achievements.

      Guo Hang reviewed the 20-year development of international education of GCC and the outstanding achievements in discipline construction, faculty building and talent training, and introduced the series of activities for the 20th anniversary celebration of international education. He said that all units need to attach great importance to the international education and raise awareness, strengthen publicity, create an atmosphere, cooperate sincerely, highlight practical results, comprehensively sum up the experience and achievements of internationalization, improve teachers' and students' awareness of the concept of international education, and broaden the international visions of teachers and students throughout the college.

      Meng Qiao, a teacher representative from International College, said that as a witness, she deeply felt the diversified and rapid development of international education in GCC, and how brilliant achievements the college had made in international cooperation and exchanges, faculty building and talent training. She said that she will never forget her ambition. She will devote herself to research, teach seriously and educate students wholeheartedly, and create a new chapter of international education of Guangzhou College of Commerce together with other teachers.

He Yancheng, a student representative from the School of Accounting, said that the substantial learning platforms and resources and the strategy of international education in this college have provided channels to him to apply for postgraduate programs. He is very grateful to the school for introducing an excellent platform for further studies, which makes him lucky enough to be the first batch of recommended students who got the chances of being admitted by Macau University of Science and Technology. He encouraged the students to make use of the abundant foreign language learning opportunities and international cooperation platforms of the school to improve their own abilities, broaden their international horizons, cultivate their global capabilities, so that they will have more choices for future development.

      Lv Quanrong announced the opening of the series of activities of the 20th anniversary celebration of Guangzhou College of Commerce.

     The theme of this celebration of the 20th anniversary of international education is “Building a bridge of cultural exchange and building a dream of prosperity and development.” and the activities will last for ten months including the shooting of the video for the 20th anniversary of international education, the unveiling ceremony of Silk Road Industry Institute, series of English contests, Belt and Road Initiative Summit of University Presidents, the signing ceremony with overseas cooperative universities, the establishment ceremony of the Strategic Development Association of University International Cooperation, the summit of Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Research Branch, the international education exchange exhibition, the 7th International Cultural Festival, the 20th anniversary achievement exhibition of international education, and the celebration party to be held one after another. These activities show the achievements of the 20-year of GCC’s international education in an all-round way, highlight the characteristics of international school running, improve the level of internationalization, and promote the school to carry out a wider, higher and deeper exchange of Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools.
