Language Blending, Cultural Collision: International College English Corner Opens!

Combined with international education resources and teachers' advantages, International College regularly holds English Corner series activities to provide students with a platform for Chinese and Western cultural exchanges with foreign teachers in English, so as to enhance students' patriotism, expand students' international vision, and enrich students' campus cultural life. The first English Corner Event was held on November 18th at 19:00 in the Cafe of the International Building. International College President Guo Hang, Vice President Long Haiying, Party Secretary Li Junpeng and many Chinese and foreign teachers attended this English corner.

With the theme of "Culture Shock", this English corner had attracted more than 50 teachers and students from International College, School of Foreign Languages, School of Information Technology and Engineering, etc. First of all, the Vice President, Long expressed her gratitude to the teachers and students who were responsible for organizing and planning this event. She hoped that the English corner could strengthen students' understanding of Chinese and Western culture, create a wonderful English learning atmosphere, encourage students to improve their English communication skills and enrich their extracurricular life.

Afterwards, teachers and students on the scene carried out the interaction of jigsaw puzzles between groups, and each group had a theme discussion on the "cultural differences" between Chinese and the Westerners in several aspects, such as eating habits, clothing and education. At the same time, students seized the opportunity to communicate in English actively with foreign teachers. Finally, Liu Lian, the teacher who has rich experience in studying abroad, and Matias Lorieri, an Italian foreign teacher, shared their views on cultural shock and summarized this activity.

The English Corner will be held at 19:00 every Wednesday in the coffee shop on the first floor of the International Building. All teachers and students are welcome to participate!
