The First High-level Forum on Language and Culture Research in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was Successfully Held in Guangzhou College of Commerce

On November 18th, the First High-level Forum on Language and Culture Research in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was successfully held in Guangzhou College of Commerce. This forum was guided by Guangdong Association of Foreign Languages, hosted by Guangzhou College of Commerce, organized by the International College of GCC, and co-organized by the School of Foreign Languages of GCC, China Pragmatics Association, and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, with the theme of “Inheritance and Development of Language and Culture in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the New Era”. More than 200 experts and scholars from over 70 universities gathered in GCC to attend the forum.

Chen Tuhua, Director of the Cooperation Promotion Department of the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Cooperation Office Center, Prof. Wu Zhuang, Vice President of Guangdong Association of Foreign Languages, and Prof. Ma Weilan, President of GCC, attended the opening ceremony of the forum. The ceremony was hosted by Guo Hang, Vice President of GCC.

In the opening speech, Prof. Ma Weilan expressed her warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the delegates for participating in the forum and working together to build the connotation of foreign language and literature in the new era. She briefly introduced the basic situation of the university and its internationalization achievements. Ma stated that the First High-level Forum on Language and Culture Research in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is one of the important academic exchange activities hosted by the university, aiming to better play the role of demonstration and leadership, to closely connect with academic elites and emerging scholars in the field of linguistics, and to build a comprehensive and integrated academic platform of education and training, scientific research and innovation, and cultural exchanges. GCC will pay close attention to the national strategy,  carry out strategic research on language promotion in the new era, and work together for the construction of a strong socialist cultural country with the goal of improving the quality of international language and culture inheritance.

At the closing ceremony of the forum, Yang Yueqing, vice dean of the International College, made a concluding speech and congratulated the forum on its success. She pointed out that the study of language and culture plays a significant role in promoting humanistic exchanges, value identity, regional and global exchanges and development, and provides new perspectives on language and translation research, as well as important inspirations for the inheritance and innovation of traditional and intangible cultural heritage in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and for the cultivation of internationalized talents to meet the needs of the new era.

The successful organization of the First High-level Forum on Language and Culture Research in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is an important achievement of the university's in-depth study and implementation of Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era and the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. The forum promoted the exchange of experiences and ideas on the development of the cultural sphere in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, highlighted the contemporary value of “the inheritance and development of language and culture”, and set up a platform for deepening academic cooperation and exchanges.
