3月24日下午,国际楼107教室里传来阵阵笑声。这是金融学(创新班)2502班的英语会话课,授课教师是外教Reece。这节课没有逐字逐句的语法剖析,也没有标准答案的“完美对话”——Reece的课堂上,最重要的只有一个标准:你开口了吗?
On the afternoon of March 24, laughter filled Room 107 of the International Building. It was an English conversation class for Finance (Innovation Class) 2502, taught by foreign teacher Reece. There was no word-by-word grammar analysis, no "perfect dialogue" with standard answers. In Reece's class, only one thing mattered: Did you speak?
“我认为引导学生表达自己的想法是很重要的”Reece这样定义自己的课堂。为了让学生们敢说、想说,他把一堂课拆成了无数个小环节:先用轻松的话题打开大家的思路,再带着学生们梳理关键词汇,把“说不出口”的陌生单词变成聊天的工具。他说:“我不要求大家用最高级的词汇、说最完美的语法,只要让我感觉到你在尝试开口、你在思考,这就够了。”
"I think it's important to engage students to express their own ideas," Reece said about his teaching. To help students speak up and want to speak, he broke one class into many small parts: first using some simple questions to open their minds, then helping them organize key words, turning unfamiliar words they "couldn't say" into tools for chatting. He said, "It might not be the best English. As long as I feel you're trying to speak, you're thinking, that's enough."
下午的课堂总是容易犯困的。Reece坦言,自己完全理解学生们的状态:“我知道大家有点累,所以我会更积极地调动气氛。”他偶尔蹦出一两句中文,总能引来学生们惊喜的反应——“哇,你竟然会讲中文!”课堂气氛一下子松弛下来。在他看来,这不仅是拉近距离的小技巧,更是一种无声的鼓励:我敢说,你们也行,说错了没关系,开口就是胜利。
Afternoon classes are always sleepy. Reece admitted he fully understood the students' state: "I know everyone is a bit tired, so I work harder to cheer them up." He occasionally popped out a sentence or two in Chinese, always drawing surprised reactions from students — "Wow, you can speak Chinese!" The classroom atmosphere immediately relaxed. In his view, this was not just a small trick to close the distance, but also a silent encouragement: I dare to speak, so can you. It's okay to make mistakes.
谈及自己的教学思路,Reece笑着说:“我会回想自己年轻的时候,那时候的我希望老师怎么上课,我现在就怎么给我的学生上课。”这种“代入式”的教学方式,让他更能理解学生的紧张与犹豫,也更知道如何用真诚和幽默化解课堂上的沉默。
Talking about his teaching ideas, Reece smiled and said: "I think back to when I was young. How I wished my teachers would teach, that's how I teach my students now." This "put-yourself-in-their-shoes" teaching method helps him better understand students' mind, and also know better how to use sincerity and humor to break the silence in class.
整节课下来,最让Reece感到开心的是学生们的回应。“听到他们开口,哪怕只是一句简单的回答,我都觉得这节课值了。”他相信,语言学习的起点,从来不是完美,而是勇气。
After the whole class, what made Reece happiest was the students' responses. "Hearing them speak, even if it's just a simple answer, I feel this class was worth it." He believes the starting point of language learning is never perfection, but courage.
在广商的课堂上,Reece用自己独特的教学方式,悄悄为学生们打开了一扇通往自信表达的门。
In the classrooms of Guangzhou College of Commerce, Reece uses his unique teaching style to quietly open a door to confident expression for his students.
