1月19日国际学院举办了2025年表彰大会,外籍教师Pascal与其他中方教师一同获得表彰,其中,Pascal被授予国际学院“文化交融大使”这一荣誉称号。这不仅是对其个人的认可,更是对广州商学院所倡导的包容、互鉴的国际化校园文化的生动注解。Pascal以其跨文化成长背景与教学实践,诠释了如何将文化差异转化为连接彼此的纽带,在多元相遇中构建共同的目标。
At the International College’s 2025 Annual Awards Ceremony on January 19, foreign teacher Pascal and other Chinese teachers were honored at the ceremony. Pascal received the title of “Cultural Integration Ambassador” from the International College. Itis more than personal recognition—it shows Guangzhou College of Commerce’s belief in an open, give-and-take and international campus. Using his own intercultural life and teaching experiences, Pascal turns differences into links between each other and many diverse encounters into one shared goal.
谈及获奖感受,Pascal坦言首先想到的是“这意味着我得准备再做一次访谈或演讲了”,幽默之余,他也表达了由衷的欣喜。这份荣誉于他而言,是其来华任教后,在广商校园里教学相长的结果。
Asked how it feels to receive the honor, Pascal’s first reaction was tongue-in-cheek: “That means I would have to be prepared todo another interview, speech or public presentation.” Beneath the humor lay genuine delight. To him, the honor had simply grown out of the years he had spent teaching and learning with his students at GCC.
过往多元行业的工作经历,让Pascal对“文化交融”有着极为具体而深刻的理解。有时哪怕语言的微小差异都可能产生误会——差异本身不是障碍,而恰恰是开启对话、增进理解的起点。他将这种从差异中寻求共鸣的智慧,从职场带入了广州商学院的课堂。
Experiences in a variety of industries have given Pascal a concrete grasp of “cultural integration.”Sometimes the misunderstandingborn of a tiny linguistic gap. In his eyes this is the essence of cross-cultural communication: difference is not an obstacle but the opening move in a dialogue that deepens understanding. He has carried that insight from his career into his GCC classroom.
面对更具挑战性的情境,例如在一个多元背景的跨国项目团队工作时,团队因文化背景、思维习惯不同而产生摩擦与误解,他深刻体会到,真正的融合并非消除差异,而是导航并融合不同的工作方式与思维习惯。“我们拥有共同的成功目标,关键在于如何利用彼此的差异,创造出尽可能好的成果。”这些宝贵的经验,如今也成为他在广商培养学生全球胜任力与团队协作精神的生动教案。
More challenging settings—such as working in a multinational project team whose members clashed over habits and mind-sets—taught him that integration is not about erasing difference but about navigating and blending diverse styles. “We all have a common goal of success, so how can we use our differences to make the best possible outcome.”Those lessons now animate the cases he designed to cultivate students’ global competence and collaborative spirit.
当被要求用一句话总结“文化交融大使”的使命时,Pascal给出了一个源自其生命体验的深刻答案。他形容自己是一个典型的“第三文化小孩”,父母来自两种迥异的文化,自己又在多个文化环境中成长生活。“我在任何地方都算不上彻底‘归家’,但同时,我在任何地方又都能‘安家’。”这种独特的视角,让他对“归属感”有了超越地域的深刻理解。
Asked to sum up the ambassador’s mission in one sentence, Pascal offered an answer rooted in living experience. A classic “third-culture kid” with parents from two different cultures and having lived in both those cultures, he said: “ I’m never at home anywhere and at the same time I’m at home everywhere. I don’t really, exactly, fit in anywhere, but at the same time I fit in everywhere.” That point gave him a notion of belonging beyond geography.
他将这份理解与使命无缝融入广州商学院的教学之中。对他而言,大使的职责与教师的职责在此完美交汇:核心便是“让这里的每个人,都拥有一种归属感,一种凝聚在一起的感觉。”基于此,他鼓励学生主动拥抱身边的多样性,将每一次跨文化的相遇,都视为丰富彼此、共同成长的宝贵机会。
He imported that outlook straight into his teaching. For Pascal, the duties of ambassador and teacher converged on one core task: “ To make everyone have a sense of belonging, a sense of togetherness.” From that foundation he urged students to embrace the diversity around them and to treat every cross-cultural encounter as a chance to enrich one another and grow as one.
在广州商学院这片国际化办学的沃土上,Pascal以其自身为桥,践行着“文化交融大使”的使命。他将广阔世界的多元图景引入校园,又将广商包容开放的精神传递给学生,真正让每一次相遇成为礼物,让差异开启跨文化交流的第一步。
On GCC’s international campus Pascal has become a walking bridge, living out the ambassador’s mandate. He brings the wider world’s plural tapestry into the classroom and carries the college’s spirit of openness back to his students, turning every meeting into a gift and every difference into the first step of intercultural communication.
